Qigong (pronounced Chee- gong) is a calming, healing practice from ancient China. Qigong consists of exercises and meditations that stimulate the flow of qi, life force energy. Qigong is intended to restore balance of body, mind, and spirit, it includes exercises for health and vitality to dissolve energy blockages, and replenish balance.
Qigong is performed standing but can easily be adapted to a seated practice. Movements are performed slowly, with intention to activate the energy meridians of the body with deep breathing and visualization.
I’ll be leading a practice of 12 basic exercises that together activate all the body’s major energy meridians. Each week we perform all the exercises in series but also will learn about qigong, breathing practices and go into more depth on 4 of the exercises. So if you can’t make the whole series, you’ll still be learning a lot and if you miss one, the other two will still make sense.
Wear clothes that are comfy to move in. No yoga mat needed. We’ll be working barefoot on the floor. If you need socks, then yes, you might need a mat.
