suffering = pain x resistance

I love this Buddhist teaching. It saves me a lot of wasted energy. And I have used it over the past few days to open to the path my country has chosen into the future. But a really inspiring conversation with a friend recently gave me pause as he was very energized by the idea of resistance in the face of what may be coming for us all.

So it got me thinking about how important our words are and how I might consider both aspects of resistance. Continue reading “suffering = pain x resistance”

Nov news blast

Here’s my solution to all of us who rarely read email newsletters. I want to keep up on your stuff but… time, ya know? It’s hard to make the time. So, my thought is if you think “I wonder what’s up with Suni” that you can stop here and get caught up without wading through social media.

My biggest news is music!!!

  • New album of sound meditation music releases Nov. 15!
  • Will be available on many streaming services.

Why do I teach meditation?

Why do I teach meditation- Here’s how the discussion went at a gathering of a new meditation group

Are there questions from the group?
Don’t you love it. I have given you no info, yet I ask for questions? Ha!

Okay, how many meditated in the past week for 3 minutes or more?
Excellent.

How many of you even thought about meditation for at least a half a second? Excellent!

If you have done nothing in regards to meditation yet you came to the gathering tonight… excellent!!! You all are excellent. Good job.

Shadow and light

Are you eclipse excited or just “meh” about the whole thing?

Don’t forget to breathe! part 1

I’m teaching breathwork classes again. I was reminded that in the classes that students have a wide range of experience with breath. There are those who have studied breathwork deeply and want to come just to see what else they can learn or to enjoy the shared experience. I also meet people who are unable to take one deep breath. The class is (was) structured for a beginning level practitioner but this experience with such a wide range of students nudged me back to the blog, as the place to share more ideas than I can in a short workshop. This is first in a series on breathing well  and why it’s so important.  Continue reading “Don’t forget to breathe! part 1”

Simple self care in challenging times.

In these changed times, it can seem hard to hold on to your positivity, your vision for your happy, healthy future. I understand… I truly do. I’m in the middle of a health wake-up call and I realized today that taking positive action feels a bit like walking a tightrope. What do I have time and money for? How can I change my already crammed schedule to make time for these new practices to build health? Do I have time to make dreams come true AND to shore up my wellness so that I can be an active part of those dreams.

“I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.”
