Sounds to heal

I haven’t blogged much about sound likely because I’ve been exploring so much. When I’m learning and exploring, it’s hard for me to stop and say, “Here’s what I know” because the knowing is growing.

I have arrived on a level with sound when I know I have enough to share and words to explain what a I know… perhaps.

Firstly, sound as a healer is exploding, which is exciting and wonderful. Like any form of expression, many pratitioners will take different paths. Thank goodness visual artists all follow their muse. None are right or wrong… all just beautifully different. That’s how sound healing or sound meditation is also. My path may be different than some others. This is just how it all vibes with me.

I’ve used sound in my healing practice for more than 30 years. I’ve worked with 1000’s of clients, mostly one-on-one in person experiences. Those experiences were a critical part my schooling, my training. I got to see how this vibration worked on this day with this person and then saw them some time later and realized that something else worked better on this new day.

So to the basics… sound is a vibration, an energy that is present in all things. People think of sound as music, something that is created and comes from outside of ourselves. But you make sound, you vibrate… all things in our world do. You vibrate at the cellular level… so do trees, rocks and our planet. All vibration, all energy. Even your thoughts are a vibrational energy.

Physics explains to us that some vibrations feel “good and right” to us… we resonate with them. Each person resonates differently as our vibrations are different. You will vibrate differently depending on the temperature, how much rest you’ve had, how well hydrated you are… and what you’re thinking about.

Physics also teaches that one object in vibration affects the vibration of others around it. We pick up vibes and they change our energy. You know the feeling of being around a friend who is in a bad mood. Their energy doesn’t necessarily take you to the exact place they’re in… but that energy shifts yours.

Let’s think about two musical notes right now. If I play one note, you hear and feel a vibration. That energy of the note shifts your vibrations a bit, creating harmonies, resonances and even pulses of energy. If I play 2 notes, those notes create harmonics, resonances and beats with each other AND have similar effects on your vibe.

Some teachings about sound healing simplify the power of sound by saying a particular note is for one purpose. C is for grounding, 528 hertz is the love frequency. If that helps you engage with sound, then that’s great. However, in my work, I’ve seen that sound is much more complex.

Complexity doesn’t mean that sound is difficult to work with nor do you have to understand the science of it. I just know that sounds I produce intuitively interact with each other in powerful ways. And these same sounds then interact with the client or group I’m working with, each in a different way.

Not understanding the detail is fine because of two factors that I’ll mention today. First, your body, your spirit, your vibe is wise and knows just what it needs. So when a stream of sound healing vibration flows over your body, you will inherently resonate with what is needed. Your energy will choose to interact with what will help. This is not a conscious decision… just the nature of the higher, wiser self.

The second factor I value so much in working with sound is intention. I create sounds with the intention to help, to radiate love, peace, openness. I visualize my groups receiving exactly what they need. I know the sound will meet them where they are. However, the intention of the individual who is receiving/ bathing in the sound is most important. Each receiver can set a conscious intention at the beginning of a sound experience. Their intention might be, “This can’t help me at all” and then the sound will wash over them with no or minimal affect. Subconscious might still connect with the sound but many of us don’t realize the power of our conscious thought.

You can set an intention with sound or honestly with any aspect of life and that intention is also a vibration. Our thoughts are real measurable energy. So when you set an intention that you will find peace, healing, joy in the world around you, you are drawing those things in vibrationally. This isn’t an instantaneous magic wand, but creating a practice of affirmation and positive intentions can make huge shifts in your life.

So, listen to the sound here or anywhere with the intention of receiving healing, or joy, or calm. Listen with the intention that you will find rest, or journey to your higher self, receive greater awakening and all these things will be drawn to you, called to you gently.

So which tone do you need to relax, to sleep, to heal, to find love? Any tones, all tones can do what you wish if you intend it to work that way. And again, your first try at it might not feel miraculous. The healing we seek is a life long experience… learning that we have this amazing power to choose, to intend, to attract, to resonate. We can achieve our dreams and fulfill our heart-felt purpose.

Expect wellness, visualize health, affirm to yourself that abundance is your birthright. Think on those things that are beautiful, things that lift you. Don’t focus on what you do not want… don’t put any energy into that.

Breathe deep, explore and receive.

Much light and love to you and yours
